It is a rare thing to survive to the final of the Clovelly Club Open Singles competition. To work your way up through six games is a huge feat! It was with utter pride and admiration that we gathered to watch our own Carmel Sowden fight it out for top place on Sunday 24th November. The match was against Rick Roper, a highly awarded player and we all knew it would be a nail-biter.
For two hours the pair positioned their bowls by the jack – with their opponent sneaking in and getting just a little bit closer. Point by painful point was fought over in one of the best games ever seen at our club.
Ultimately Rick won the honour of champ but in our eyes, our beautiful Carmel will always be number one! Well done to both of them and thank you Bendigo Bank and their representative, Karen Tayor, for 18 years of sponsorship of the competition.
The Presentation Day followed the match and after a delicious lunch the Men’s competition winners were awarded their trophies. It was an uplifting day full of laughter and friendship!
